‘Resolve Blockade and Madhes Movement Soon’

Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has requested Acting President of Nepali Congress, Ramchandra Paudel, to resolve the problems created by India’s unofficial blockade and the Madhes movement through diplomatic and political channels. A delegation NCC representatives led by its Chairperson Rajeshkaji Shrestha made this request to Paudel on Wednesday.

During the meeting Chairperson Shrestha drew Paudel’s attention to the decline and shrinkage of national economy because of the blockade of border points for months against the expectation of the private sector that the new constitution would pave the way for durable peace and prosperity of the nation.

He said that the unending strike and blockade had totally destroyed business and the business community was in a state of moving out. Reminding him of the feedbacks and suggestions provided by the private sector earlier, Chairperson Shrestha stressed  the need to form a working group with the participation of the private sector to identify, assess and resolve the ongoing problems to stop further deterioration of the economy.

Acting President Paudel said that his party was taking various initiatives including the amendment of the constitution for the resolution of the problem. He also said that the Nepali Congress was in dialogue with the Madhes-based parties and expressed the confidence of finding an early way out.

The delegation also consisted of First Chairperson of the Chamber Gyanendraratna Tuladhar, Second Chairperson Rajendra Malla and Secretary General Kamalesh Kumar Agrawal.
