In FY 2014/15, govt collected Rs 14 billion revenue from passports

September 7: The Department of Passport, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, collected Rs 4.48 billion in revenue from fees for passports in the Fiscal Year 2014/15.

According to the department, it issued 1.3 million passports in the period, 452,155 of which were issued from the department itself, 542,409 form 75 districts and 342,274 from various foreign missions.

The department has the capacity to issue 5,000 passports per day, and it is getting around 4,000 applications every day on an average. 

The number of handwritten passports issued by the government is unknown, but the department has assumed it to be around 2.5 million. Till date, the department has exchanged 1.7 million handwritten passports for MRPs. Form November 2015, one cannot travel with handwritten passports. 
The department has issued 3.4 million MRPs since December 26, 2010.
