Aviation industry trend: Int’l airlines contracting, local ones expanding

September 8: The aviation business in Nepal, especially in the case of international flights, has been dominated by international airliners. But all that may soon change.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the number of international airlines that connect Nepal to the rest of the world has declined. According to official figures, 29 international airlines were flying to and from Nepal, but the number fell to 25 in 2014. However, in the meantime, the number of local airline companies has grown to 17.

However, the decline in the number of airliners serving Nepal does not mean that the number of people using their services has gone down. In fact, more people are making international flights. According to government figures, in 2014, international airlines flying to and from Nepal served 3.5 million people in 2014. This figure is 0.37 million more than that of the previous year.

Meanwhile, the number of local airline companies is growing, but the number of passengers using their services has shown a declining trend. In 2011, 1.5 million people travelled with a local airline, but the volume contracted to 1.4 million in 2014.
