International Hotel Chain Marriott in Nepal by 2016
Maliram Shivakumar (MS) Group has signed an agreement with Marriot International, a globally renowned chain of hotels, to open a four-star hotel in Nepal. Named “Fairfield Marriot Kathmandu”, the hotel will be located in Thamel. “MS group has brought the international brand to Nepal with the objective of starting a hotel under the Nepal Hospitality Group (NHG),” said Shashi Kant Agrawal, Vice- President of the MS Group. 
 
In a programme held at the capital last week, Agrawal said that around Rs 650 million is to be invested in the hotel that aims to cater to people who have Kathmandu on their travel agenda. “Company has already started working on the project and it will commercially open in the beginning of 2016,” he mentioned. 
 
The proposed 10 storey hotel, targeted towards the mid-income tourists, will have 108 rooms. Agrawal said that the hotel has been designed to attract additional demand for tourism in Nepal by offering the branded, quality and consistent hospitality excellence that the Fairfield by Marriott brand offers. Although a foreign management will be responsible for the operation of the hotel, MS group will be the sole invester in the project. 
 
Marriot International is a leading lodging company having 700 hotels in North America. It has simultaneously been expanding its services in Asia and South America. Navjeet Ahluwalia, Senior Vice-President of Marriot International assured the effective services of its brand in Nepal. 
 
The MS Group is also planning to open five-star properties under Marriott chain in Bhaktapur and Naxal, Kathmandu. “We have acquired land for the purpose,” said Agrawal, adding that the company has gradual plans to make its presence felt outside the capital city as well. The group has planned to complete the hotel construction within three years at Naxal and four years at Bhaktapur. The work will commence post- Dashain. MS Group has expanded its business in hospitality industry with the domestic and international regional tourism. MS Group has been in the sectors of textile, spinning mill, housing and soap since 1970 with more than a dozen industries.
