Microhydros need to be connected to national grid, says study

September 30: Microhydro projects need to be built in such a way that there would be a possibility to connect it to the national electricity grid, a study has recommended.

The study has shown that it would not be feasible for MHPs to be connected to a separate ‘mini grid’, said the World Bank’s Senior Energy Expert Tomayuki Yamashita. “This is the reason why it would be beneficial for them to be able to be connected to the national grid when a connection becomes available,” he said.

The report, titled ‘Access to Electricity through Small and Microhydro Projects, has been prepared by the World Bank with help from Alternative Energy Promotion Centre, and Asia Sustainable and Alternative Energy Programme.
