FNCCI requests private medical colleges to call off protest

September 11: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has expressed concern over planned protests by the Association of Private Medical and Dental College of Nepal, and urged members not to resort to closure of hospitals.

This comes as members of association have expressed dissatisfaction over the report submitted by the Mathema commission on medical education. Medical colleges and hospitals are there for the public, and if they close, it will send a negative message about the investment climate in Nepal, said the FNCCI. It has said that all stakeholders need to be consulted before any decision is made.

The federation has requested the government to address the demands of the hospitals before they are compelled to go for protests. FNCCI has also demanded that the government provide an environment conducive for medical colleges to provide quality education to domestic and foreign students.

FNCCI has said all problems should be resolved through dialogue. It has requested the association of private medical colleges to call of its all protests and sit for talks.
