Casinos should not be allowed inside hotels, says parliamentary committee

September 8: The parliamentary committee on International Relations and Labour has recommended that casinos should not be allowed to operate inside hotels.

The committee, in a report, said casinos should be given operating licenses by giving them a designated area to operate in.

The report, prepared by a sub-committee headed by lawmaker Min Bahadur Biswokarma, said although the casinos have their down sides, they are needed for the promotion of tourism. “We need to make regulation, control and management of casinos effective,” said Biswokarma.

The report suggests that casinos should be allowed to operate from a ‘casino village’ that would be at least 5 km away from the city.
