Private Sector Vital for Infrastructural Development: CNI

February 23: Organisers of Nepal Infrastructure Summit 2017 that was held on February 19/20 in Kathmandu has claimed of being successful. Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), organiser of the summit, inviting a press meet on Wednesday, February 23 claimed that the summit was a success. The second session of Nepal Infrastructure Summit 2017 was organised with an object to start discussion on importance of private sector's participation in infrastructure development. The confederation opined that the summit proved private sector's importance in the construction of sustainable and secure infrastructural network for the development of the company.

"The low investment in infrastructure in Nepal has halted the development and expansion of industries in Nepal," said Hari Bhakta Sharma, President of CNI. "Moreover economy is unable to generate required employment due to the contraction in the industrial development. Development of infrastructure is also essential to improve livelihood of people," he said. The summit has established the fact that the infrastructural development in the fast run is required to generate production based employment and eradication of poverty through high, inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

The confederation has requested all related bodies and officials to take the announcement made in the summit seriously and to implement them as soon as possible by making necessary amendment in Act and Policies. Experience of various countries show the importance of public-private-partnership (PPP) in the development of infrastructure, viewed experts participated in the summit. Nepal should note from those experience and bring necessary Acts for that matter, they stressed.
