Prakriti Resort and Organic Farm, located in Helambu-3 of Melamchi Municipality, Sindhupalchok, has received the prestigious ‘Travelife Certification for Accomodation Sustainability’ by Travelife UK, recognising its efforts in promoting sustainable tourism.
The certification acknowledges the resort’s compliance with 143 rigorous criteria related to eco-friendly infrastructure, organic farming, zero-waste operations, and community engagement, aligned with the UN World Tourism Organization’s Sustainable Development Goals and Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) standards.
A comprehensive audit was conducted at the property over three days starting May 31, 2025, to assess its sustainability practices and documentation, according to the resort.
“This achievement validates our long-term sustainable practices and inspires the growth of sustainable trends in Nepal’s tourism industry,” said Arun Shrestha, Managing Director of the resort, at an event held at the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB). “The Travelife certification will also help promote Nepal as a responsible and climate-friendly destination in the global market.”
Sunil Sharma, Acting Director at NTB, said international certifications like Travelife set a benchmark for the hospitality sector in Nepal. “True sustainability is only possible with active community participation,” he added.
Binayak Shah, President of the Hotel Association Nepal, emphasized that the future of tourism lies in environmentally responsible operations and said the recognition will further strengthen Nepal’s eco-tourism credentials.
The event also included a group discussion on sustainable tourism strategies and the sector’s roadmap in Nepal.
