Government Hikes Wages of Tea Estate Farmers Marginally

July 13: The government has fixed the minimum wage of workers employed in  tea farms. This provision will come into effect from the upcoming fiscal year.

The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security has issued a notice on the Nepal Gazette stating that the minimum wage of workers has been increased by Rs 520 per month.

The notice issued on Monday (July 12) has instructed stakeholders to implement the new provision from July 16 onwards.

The notice states that the basic salary of the workers of tea farm has been fixed at Rs 7,769 per month. Starting from July 16, the workers of tea farms will get a minimum monthly salary of Rs 12,081.

The daily wage of workers is Rs 435 while the hourly rate is Rs 57 per hour. The daily allowance of workers have been fixed at Rs 55.

Prior to this, the workers in tea estates were receiving a monthly salary of Rs 11,561 since the beginning of the current fiscal year. The  government has increased their salary only marginally.
