After six straight days of gains, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Index slipped 0.82% or 22.35 points, on Monday, July 7, to close at 2,684.01.
Daily turnover, too, dropped to Rs 8.37 billion, compared to Sunday’s Rs 9.50 billion. Trading volume fell, with 19.4 million shares exchanged in 71,313 transactions, down from 27.13 million shares traded across 87,398 transactions the previous day.
All major sub-indices ended in the red. The Sensitive Index, tracking large-cap stocks, dipped 0.89%; the Float Index fell 0.87%; and the Sensitive Float Index fell 0.88%.
Out of 248 companies that were traded on the day, only 39 advanced while 209 declined.
Mathillo Mailun Khola Jalvidhyut Limited (MMKJL) and Corporate Development Bank Limited (CORBL) beame the day's top gainers, with their share prices increasing by 6.56% and 6.28%, respectively.
On the other extreme was Rapti Hydro and General Construction Limited (RHGCL), hitting the lower circuit limit.
Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited (NRIC) topped the turnover chart with transactions worth Rs 807 million. Guardian Micro Life Insurance Limited (GMLI) and NRN Infrastructure and Development Limited (NRN) followed with transactions totalling at Rs 417 million and Rs 242 million, respectively.
Of the 13 sectoral indices, only two–Hotels & Tourism (up 0.61%) and Mutual Funds (0.07%)--ended in positive territory. The Finance Index saw the steepest fall of 3.76%.
Total market capitalization shrank to Rs 4,471.94 billion from Rs 4,509.19 billion on Sunday.
