Nepal experienced a slight dip in tourist arrivals in June 2025 compared to the previous month and the same period last year, according to newly released data from the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).
A total of 76,425 international visitors entered the country in June, down from 86,216 in May—a month-on-month decline of 9,787 tourists. Compared to June 2024, when 76,736 tourists arrived, the decrease is marginal.
Despite this short-term fluctuation, arrivals in June 2025 were 2.1 percent higher than in June 2019, the last pre-pandemic benchmark, when Nepal welcomed 74,883 tourists. This indicates a gradual recovery in the country’s tourism sector following the disruption caused by COVID-19.
Cumulatively, Nepal welcomed 577,689 tourists in the first half of 2025, a modest decrease of 5,327 visitors compared to the same period in 2024, when 583,016 tourists were recorded.
India remained Nepal’s largest source market in June, contributing 32,662 visitors, or more than 42 percent of total monthly arrivals. The United States followed with 9,696 tourists, while China ranked third with 6,736.
Other notable source countries in June included Bangladesh (5,449), the United Kingdom (2,284), Australia (1,831), Malaysia (1,348), Bhutan (1,167), Japan (1,019), and South Korea (1,002).
In terms of regional breakdown, over half of the tourists, 52.4 percent or 40,023 visitors, originated from South Asian nations within the SAARC bloc. Non-South Asian Asian countries accounted for 16.6 percent (12,674), while arrivals from the Americas reached 10,735 (14 percent). European tourists made up 9 percent of the total (6,865), followed by Oceania with 1,977 (2.6 percent), the Middle East with 810 (1.1 percent), Africa with 310 (0.4 percent), and other regions contributing 3,130 visitors (4.4 percent).
From January to June 2025, Indian nationals were the most frequent visitors, with 147,839 arrivals. The NTB compiled the data based on immigration records provided by Nepal’s Department of Immigration.
