July 4: Nirmal Kajee Shrestha has been appointed the vice president and general manager of Nepal branch of MetLife, a global life insurance company that operates in nearly 50 countries and holds leading market positions in the United States, Japan, Latin America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Issuing a press statement, MetLife Nepal said Shrestha has been appointed to the posts effective from July 1.

MetLife’s regional chief Md Nurul Islam, who oversees the works in Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar, said, “Nirmal’s appointment as general manager highlights our commitment to promote local talent. I am delighted he has taken this key role. Given his deep understanding of our business, extensive industry experience and strong leadership, we are confident that Nirmal is well positioned to capture the growth opportunities we see in Nepal.”

Shrestha joined MetLife in Nepal in 2002 and has been employed in a number of senior roles in sales and agency management. Prior to joining MetLife, Shrestha held various roles in the hospitality and aviation sectors, reads the press statement.

Shrestha holds an MBA degree from Tribhuvan University.

MetLife has been operating in Nepal since 2001 as a branch of the American Life Insurance Company.
