The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) Index closed in the red once again on Wednesday, May 14, marking its fourth straight day of losses. The benchmark index fell 13.96 points, or 0.53%, to settle at 2,620.27, following declines of 0.45% on last Thursday, 0.47% on Sunday, and 0.56% on Tuesday.
The market was closed on Monday in observance of Buddha Jayanti.
Prior to last Thursday's decline, the index had gained 2.38% on Wednesday and edged up by 0.03% on Tuesday, breaking a five-session losing streak.
Investor participation also continued to weaken, with the daily turnover exceeding Rs 8.73 billion, a decrease from more than Rs 9.63 billion in the prior session.
Over 18.4 million shares changed hands through 112,577 transactions.
Decliners outpaced advancers, with 183 of 246 traded stocks in the red. Only 62 managed gains, while one remained flat.
All major sub-indices ended in negative territory. The Sensitive Index fell 0.73%, the Float Index dropped 0.60%, and the Sensitive Float Index lost 0.69%.
In individual stock movements, Om Megashree Pharmaceuticals Limited (OMPL) and Gurans Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (GLBSL) were the day’s top gainers and losers, with both stocks moving by 9.98%, although in opposite directions.
On the turnover front, Radhi Bidyut Company Ltd (RADHI) led the pack, followed by Universal Power Company Ltd (UPCL) and Crest Micro Life Insurance Limited (CREST).
Among the 13 sectoral indices on NEPSE, only the Development Bank Index and the Others Index managed to close in the green, rising by 1.19% and 2.46%, respectively. On the downside, the HydroPower Index saw the sharpest drop, falling 1.96%.
Market capitalization decreased to approximately Rs 4.35 trillion, down from Rs 4.38 trillion in the previous session.
