Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal has called on South Korean investors to invest with confidence in the development and expansion of Nepal’s railway services.
During a meeting with representatives from the Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) on Tuesday, Minister Dahal emphasized that railway development is a key priority of the Government of Nepal. He encouraged the South Korean delegation to explore investment opportunities in this sector.
Dahal also urged KORAIL to conduct studies and research on expanding rail services to religious, cultural, and tourism destinations across Nepal. He noted that Nepal is working to create a conducive investment environment and expressed openness to discussing various investment models.
Keshab Kumar Sharma, Secretary at the Ministry, highlighted that electric railway (e-rail) systems could be particularly suitable for Nepal, given the country’s vast hydropower potential.
Sushil Gyawali, CEO of the Investment Board Nepal, announced that a joint taskforce of experts from both countries will be formed in the coming days to study different investment and development modalities for the railway sector.
Han Moon Hee, CEO of KORAIL, shared his company’s 126-year legacy in railway development and expressed willingness to undertake similar projects in Nepal. -- RSS
