The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Index dropped 2.53 points, or 0.47 percent, on Sunday, May 11, closing at 2,649.11.
The decline follows a 0.45 percent drop on Thursday, the last trading day of the previous week. Before that, the index had gained 2.38 percent on Wednesday and edged up by 0.03 percent on Tuesday, breaking a five-session losing streak.
Investor participation too declined on Sunday, with the daily turnover reaching over Rs 10.20 billion, a decrease from more than Rs 11.6 billion in the prior session.
More than 24 million shares changed hands through 88,955 transactions.
Out of 246 listed companies that were traded, 82 advanced while 164 declined.
All major sub-indices closed in the red. The Sensitive Index dropped 0.61 percent, the Float Index shed 0.51 percent, and the Sensitive Float Index fell by 0.48 percent.
Nepal Micro Insurance Company Limited (NMIC) and Crest Micro Life Insurance Limited (CREST) hit their upper circuit limits, emerging as the day’s top gainers. Himalayan Hydropower Limited (HHL) and Joshi Hydropower Development Company Ltd (JOSHI) also posted strong gains of 9.99 percent each.
On the losing side, Sindhu Bikash Bank Ltd. (SINDU) tumbled 7.30 percent, making it the day’s biggest loser.
Radhi Bidyut Company Ltd. (RADHI) topped the turnover chart, followed by Ngadi Group Power Ltd. (NGPL) and Universal Power Company Ltd. (UPCL).
Among NEPSE’s 13 sectoral indices, only four closed in positive territory. The Hotels and Tourism Index led with a sharp gain of 6.24 percent. Meanwhile, the Finance Index posted the steepest decline, dropping 3.38 percent.
The market’s total capitalization declined to approximately Rs 4.40 trillion, down from Rs 4.42 trillion in the previous session.
