Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, is adorned with lights and decorations as it welcomes thousands of devotees for the 2,569th Buddha Jayanti, being observed today, May 12.
The Lumbini Development Trust has completed all preparations to welcome pilgrims to Lumbini, a global center of faith for Buddhists and peace-seekers. The Mayadevi Temple complex, the sacred Pushkarini Pond, and surrounding areas have been cleaned and illuminated with colorful lights. Numerous Buddhist stupas and monasteries have also been decorated for the occasion.
The Lumbini Development Trust had launched a special cleanliness campaign ahead of the festival, giving the entire area a fresh and vibrant look.
According to Dhundiraj Bhattarai, a member of the publicity committee and treasurer of the Lumbini Development Trust, a special worship ceremony, prayer gathering, and peace rally will be held today. The main event will be inaugurated by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at the International Buddhist Conference Center.
Tight security measures have been put in place to ensure that devotees from Nepal and abroad can celebrate the day in a peaceful environment.
According to the trust, this year’s Buddha Jayanti holds particular significance as the world grapples with ongoing wars and conflict, making Lord Buddha’s message of peace and fraternity more relevant than ever. -- RSS
