Renowned climber Kami Rita Sherpa stood atop Mount Everest for an unprecedented 31st time at around 4 AM on Tuesday, once again breaking his own world record for the most ascents of the world’s highest peak, measuring 8848.86-metre.
This season, the 55-year-old Sherpa led an Indian Army expedition as the team’s lead climbing guide, continuing a remarkable mountaineering career that began with his first successful Everest summit in 1994.

Sherpa was born in Thame, a village near Everest Base Camp that was impacted by a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood in August 2024.

Trailing him in the record books is Pasang Dawa Sherpa, who has now reached the Everest summit 29 times, including two successful ascents in the ongoing spring season.
