After multiple deadline extensions, the long-awaited Gwarko flyover—located at one of the busiest intersections on the Kathmandu Ring Road—is finally in its final stages. Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Devendra Dahal, confirmed during a site inspection on Sunday, May 25, that the flyover will be operational by mid-June.
“There’s no room for further delay,” said Minister Dahal. “Barring any unforeseen natural disasters, vehicles will be using this flyover by mid-June.”
The four-lane, single-span flyover is designed to ease congestion at the Gwarko junction. It features a 320-meter ramp on the Balkumari side and a 185-meter ramp near B&B Hospital side, with a total bridge span of 35 meters. The structure provides a minimum vertical clearance of six meters to allow uninterrupted traffic flow below.

According to Deep Barahi, head of the Department of Roads’ Quality Research and Development Center, the construction of major physical infrastructure has been completed. Blacktopping is currently underway, and traffic lights will be installed.
The project, initially contracted for Rs 170.688 million, was awarded to Ashish Samanantar Religare JV in February 2022 under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model. Construction began in February 2023, a year after the contract was awarded. Under the EPC model, the contractor bears full responsibility for both design and execution.
The original completion deadline was set for February 2024, but a late start and technical setbacks—such as a joint gap caused by ground subsidence earlier in March this year—led to multiple deadline extensions.
