Newly-Appointed Ministers take Oath of Office and Secrecy

Twenty-Member Council of Ministers Formed

March 6: President Ram Chandra Paudel administered oath of office and secrecy to sixteen newly-appointed ministers, including three deputy prime ministers on Wednesday.    
They were administered oath of office and secrecy upon the recommendation of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal in accordance with Article 80 of the Constitution at a special function held at the office of President on Wednesday evening.    

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal reshuffled the cabinet after breaking an alliance with the Nepali Congress. The new coalition partners include CPN Maoist Centre, CPN-UML, Rastriya Swatantra Party and CPN Unified Socialist. Three ministers took oath of office on Tuesday. With this, the Council of Ministers now has twenty members including the prime minister.
Those taking oath of office on behalf of the CPN-UML on Wednesday include Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Infrastructure Raghubir Mahaseth; Minister for Defense Hari Prasad Uprety; Minister for Water Supply Rajendra Rai; Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Damodar Bhandari; Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizen Bhagawati Chaudhari; Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Jwala Kumari Saha; and Minister for Land Management and Cooperatives Balram Adhikari.    
Similarly, the newly-appointed ministers on behalf of CPN (Maoist Centre) are Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shretha; Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun, Minister for Water Resources and Energy Shakti Bahadur Basnet, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma, and Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Hit Bahadur Tamang.    
From Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rabi Lamichhane took the oath as Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, Sumana Shrestha as Minister for Education, Science and Technology, and Biraj Bhakta Shrestha as Minister for Youth and Sports.      
Those taking oath of office from CPN (Unified Socialist) include Bhanu Bhakta Joshi as Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration and Dhan Bahadur Budha as Minister for Urban Development.    
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, PM Dahal, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Chairperson of CPN (Unified Socialist) Madhav Kumar, among others.    
Similarly, the three ministers without portfolio have been assigned ministries. Padam Giri as been handed the responsibility of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs; Hit Bahadur Tamang has been appointed as Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, and Dol Prasad Aryal as Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security. They took oath of office and secrecy on Tuesday.    
The remaining ministries are currently handled by the prime minister himself.
