September 24: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has authenticated the ‘Appropriation Bill, 2078’ paving way for the government to spend the budget.

According to the Office of the President, the bill passed from the Federal Parliament was authenticated on Thursday (September 23) as per Article 113 (2) of the Constitution.

Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota had sent the bill to the Office of the President for authentication after it was passed by both the lower and upper houses of parliament.

The country had witnessed a ‘budget holiday' since last week when the parliament was not able to pass the bill due to obstruction created by the main opposition party CPN-UML.

The House of Representatives later passed the ‘Appropriation Bill’ on September 20 while the National Assembly had passed the bill Thursday itself. With the authentication of the bill, the government now can spend budget from the state coffers.
