Bangladesh Ready to Supply 50,000 Tons of Urea to Nepal: PM Oli

September 2: Prime Minister KP Oli has requested for help from his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina to supply urea at a time when the farmers across the country are facing acute shortage of chemical fertilizers.

PM Oli sought help from Bangladesh during a telephone conversation with PM Hasina on Tuesday (September 1).

Oli said in a tweet that he held talks with Bangladesh regarding the relation between the two countries. He added that Bangladeshi PM Hasina was positive toward his request to supply urea.

The telephone conversation tool place at a time when Nepal had initiated the process to procure fertilizers from Bangladesh. Farmers are also in need of urea right now after completing plantation.

The government is preparing to borrow 50,000 tons of urea from Bangladesh at the moment.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development Hari Bahadur KC confirmed that that the government has initiated the process to borrow 50,000 tons of urea from Bangladesh.

According to the ministry, the government will receive 50,000 tons of urea from Bangladesh and instead paying for the fertilizer, the government will return the same amount next year. This agreement has been finalized after the telephone conversation between the two prime ministers, said a high-ranking government official.
