Bhatbhateni Supermarket Fined for Overcharging Customers

April 28: The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has slapped a fine of Rs 300,000 against Bhatbhateni Supermarket for selling daily essentials at a price more than the stated price of the goods.
A monitoring team from the Department had found that the Bhatbhateni Supermarket at Tangal had sold consumer goods exceeding the maximum retail price (MRP). The Department said the store has been fined as per the Consumer Protection Act, 2075.
Similarly, the Department fined a fine of Rs 100,000 to the MBT Food Store in Kapan as it was found operating without keeping the price list of commodities.
The government has permitted big stores including Bhatbhateni to operate even during the lockdown for the convenience of the people to buy essentials. The Department has intensified market monitoring despite the lockdown to prevent consumers from being cheated during the present adverse situation. -- RSS
