September 27: The sixth edition of NewBiz Business Conclave and Awards kicked off in the capital on Friday. Minister for Finance Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada inaugurated the event amid a function at Soaltee Crowne Plaza.

The event is being attended by some 500 high level professionals from public and private sector including politicians, government officials, business leaders from banking, travel and tourism and other sectors as well as academiciansThis year’s conclave is being held on the eve of Visit Nepal 2020 and the theme of this event is “Tourism to Prosperity: Sharing Best Practices” to help in this national campaign. This year’s event is supported by Visit Nepal 2020 and is being held in association with Hotel Association of Nepal. Similarly, Nepal Tourism Board is partnering as the promoter. 

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Suraj Vaidhya, national coordinator for the Visit Nepal 2020 campaign urged one and all to make a collective effort to won this campaign.

“We need a united Nepal to take up this agenda. If we take a collective ownership I think we will achieve much more,” said Vaidhya.

“There is only 96 days for the beginning of VNY2020. Let me assure that we are almost ready to let Nepal rolling,” he added.

According to Vaidhya, the government believes tourism is going to be the national economic agenda as it will create job opportunities and bring new investment as well as open up new destinations. It has scope beyond Nepal also.

Vaidhya argued that tourism can create job opportunities and prevent young people from leaving the country.

The opening ceremony was followed by panel discussion attended by prominent figures of South Asia and South East Asia.

The awards ceremony is scheduled for later in the evening.
