10th South Asia Economic Summit from today

November 14: The 10th South Asia Economic Summit is scheduled to kick off in Kathmandu on Tuesday, November 14, with a view to attain sustainable development of the region. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur is set to inaugurate the summit.

The two-day summit, which is being jointly organised by National Planning Commission, Ministry of Commerce and South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE), is believed to help in promoting business in South Asia.

The central theme of the summit is Deepening Economic Integration for Inclusive and Sustainable Development in South Asia, SAWTEE wrote on its website.

The summit will focus on the sub-themes of intraregional trade and investment; climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction; international labour migration and remittances; sustainable intensification of agriculture for food and nutrition security; energy cooperation; sustainable development goals; and genetic resources and intellectual property.

More than 200 people, including three ministers for commerce from South Asian countries, planning experts, ambassadors, lawmakers and high-ranking government officials will participate in the summit, according to Dr Swarnim Wagle, vice chairman of NPC.
