NRB Issues Silver Medallion Coins

September 24: The Mint Division of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has introduced silver medallion coins featuring the image of a 'cow'. NRB governor Maha Prasad Adhikari released the coins amid a program at the division office in Babarmahal on Sunday.

The medallion coins are available in two different weights: 10 grams and 25 grams. The value of the 10-gram coin is Rs 1,600 while the 25-gram coin is valued at Rs 4,000 per coin.

According to the Mint Division, the medallion coins were minted from the bank's silver stock with a purity of 999. These coins do not feature a specified face value and such coin is called the medallion.  The NRB Board of Directors on June 2 decided to mint the coins and bring them into circulation. -- RSS
