Appeal Registered at Apex Court against Release of Cricketer Lamichhane

February 1: An appeal has been registered at the Supreme Court (SC) against the decision of the High Court Patan to release suspended national cricket team captain, Sandeep Lamichhane, on bail. Lamichhane is accused of raping a minor.
The Office of the Attorney General on Tuesday filed the appeal at the apex court against the decision of the high court.
Scrapping the order of the District Court Kathmandu to remand Lamichhane to judicial custody, the High Court decided to release him conditionally with a bail amount of Rs 2 million.

A divisional bench of Patan High Court judges Ramesh Dhakal and Dhrubaraj Nandan on January 12 had issued the order to release Lamichhane on bail.
A charge sheet was registered against Lamichahne on September 5 accusing him of raping a 17-year-old girl. Lamichhane's lawyer had been claiming that the adolescent girl was not a minor on age ground.
After the registration of the charge sheet, Lamichhane was kept in judicial custody. Police had apprehended him from the Tribhuvan International Airport on October 6 last year. -- RSS
