Tension Runs High at Supreme Court

December 7: Tension ran high at the Supreme Court after the Parliament Secretariat sent a letter to suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana on Wednesday stating that the impeachment motion against him has become inactive.

The tension erupted after a woman threw a shoe in protest at the apex court gate as Rana was rumored to return back to office after the impeachment motion against him became inactive.

Police personnel were deployed at the SC premises to prevent any untoward incident as crowds of people advocating for Rana’s return and those opposing his comeback gathered at the main gate.

General Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat Dr Bharatraj Gautam had sent the letter to the Office of the President, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Office of the Constitutional Council, Supreme Court Judicial Council and Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana stating that the impeachment motion against Rana has become ineffective from today (December 7) itself.

Rana had written a letter to the Parliament Secretariat on Tuesday requesting it to write letters to the concerned agencies and persons to inform them about the motion becoming inactive after the election of the new parliament and failure of the erstwhile parliament to conclude the motion.

In line with the same request, the parliament secretariat had written to the concerned agencies and persons about the motion becoming ineffective.
