Around 50,000 foreign workers in Nepal are working illegally without work permit, according to the Ministry of Labor and Transport Management. The statistics of Labor Department shows that only six thousand foreign nationals are working in Nepal.

The illegal workers can be punished according to the Labor Act, Immigration Act, Revenue laws, and other related laws. But no action has been taken against any of the workers, according to Karna. The Immigration Department has informed that it had issued visas to 1421 workers in the last fiscal year alone. Of them, 152 were involved with NGOs and INGOs.
