Nepal has decided to suspend on-arrival visa facilities for Iranian nationals amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

The Department of Immigration said on Friday, March 13, that Iranian citizens — except those holding diplomatic passports — must now obtain visas from Nepali embassies abroad before entering Nepal.

With the new restriction, the number of countries whose citizens are barred from receiving on-arrival visas in Nepal has reached 13. These include Nigeria, Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), Ghana, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan and Syria.

Acting Director General of the Department of Immigration Tikaram Dhakal said individuals with refugee travel documents must also obtain visas from Nepali diplomatic missions before entering the country.
