Nepal has reaffirmed its strong support for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and stressed the need to ensure the safety and security of peacekeepers serving in the conflict-hit region.
Expressing concern over the escalating conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran in West Asia, Nepal underscored the importance of protecting UN peacekeepers operating under difficult conditions.
According to Nepal’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, Nepal joined other UN member states in reiterating firm support for UNIFIL following a recent attack in southern Lebanon that injured three peacekeepers.
Nepal stated that peacekeepers must never be targets of attack. The government also strongly condemned attacks against United Nations personnel and wished the injured peacekeepers a swift and full recovery.
Nepal further called on all concerned parties to exercise maximum restraint, respect international law, and fully implement the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Nepal remains one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping missions. As of December 31, 2025, the country had 4,497 personnel serving in UN peacekeeping operations, making it the second-largest contributor after Rwanda, according to data from the United Nations Peacekeeping website.
