More than 750,000 people have left the Kathmandu Valley for their hometowns ahead of the House of Representatives (HoR) elections, traffic police said on Tuesday, March 3.
With two days remaining before the vote, the outflow of travellers is expected to continue until Wednesday.
Nepal is scheduled to vote on Thursday to elect the 275-member House of Representatives, the Lower House of the Federal Parliament. Of the total, 165 members will be elected under the first-past-the-post system, while 110 will be chosen through proportional representation.
Police said additional traffic personnel have been deployed in key congestion points to manage the increased movement of vehicles. However, commuters have complained about the absence of traffic police during peak hours.
Election police were also seen assisting traffic officers in managing the flow of vehicles.
