Nepal Rastra Bank has directed banks and financial institutions (BFIs) to continue providing government revenue collection and election-related services even during upcoming public holidays between Monday, March 2, and Friday, March 6.

In a directive issued on Sunday, the central bank instructed designated commercial banks handling government transactions to ensure uninterrupted payment services and revenue collection in the period. It also asked BFIs operating election-related accounts to continue providing services to political parties and candidates, including deposits and payments through cash, cheques, and other negotiable instruments.

Monday is a holiday in the hilly and the himalayan region for Fagu Purnima, while Tuesday is a holiday in the Tarai-Madhes. In addition, a three-day public holiday has been declared from Tuesday, March 4, for the March 5 House of Representatives elections. Next Sunday, March 8, is also a public holiday for International Women’s Day.

The Election Commission has mandated political parties and election candidates to operate separate bank accounts exclusively for election-related spending.
