Essential Service Vehicles Do Not Require Pass on Election Day: Election Commission

Election Commission

The Election Commission (EC) has urged the government to make necessary arrangements to allow vehicles providing essential services to operate without a pass on the election day (March 5).

In a press statement issued on Saturday, the EC said vehicles that will not require a pass include fire engines, ambulances, hearse vans, water tankers and vehicles transporting fruits, milk, vegetables, fish and petroleum products.

Vehicles providing telecommunications and electricity services, as well as those carrying health professionals, will also be allowed to operate without a pass. Domestic and international air passengers travelling to and from the airport from their residences will also not require passes.

Similarly, vehicles transporting pregnant women, new mothers, persons with disabilities, senior citizens and voters who are unable to walk — along with one assistant — will not need a pass. Vehicles belonging to the diplomatic corps, election observers, the National Human Rights Commission used for election monitoring, and media professionals will also be allowed to operate, according to the EC.

The EC said it has set up an integrated desk at its premises to issue passes for vehicles recommended by the district administration offices of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur. -- RSS
