Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), the national flag carrier, has reported encouraging improvements in its half-year performance in the current fiscal year (FY 2025/26).

According to the state-owned airlines company, its income and passenger numbers increased significantly from mid-July 2025 to mid-January 2026 (Shrawan to Poush) compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year.

During the review period, NAC’s total revenue increased by around seven percent, while passenger numbers rose by 18.7 percent year-on-year.

The NAC attributed the growth to the operation of regular and efficient flights to various destinations, ensuring maximum utilization of available aircraft.

NAC said most of its flights have been operating with high passenger loads from January to March.

The improved performance is a respite for NAC which has been struggling to repay its loans. NAC had taken loans worth Rs 34 billion to purchase four aircraft — two narrow-body and two wide-body jets — for international flights.

The airliner borrowed Rs 12 billion from Citizen Investment Trust in 2017 and Rs 22 billion from Employees Provident Fund in 2015 under a government guarantee arrangement.

NAC is required to repay the loans within 15 years.

NAC Spokesperson Archana Khadka said the corporation aims to sustain the growth momentum by further strengthening service expansion and market management in the coming months. – With inputs from RSS
