India’s Bihar State Government has announced plans to construct a 250-kilometre expressway connecting Nepal’s Pashupatinath Temple with Baidyanath Dham in India’s Jharkhand state.

Bihar’s Road Construction Minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal unveiled the proposal while presenting a budget of more than INR 82.60 billion for the fiscal year 2026–27 in the state assembly last Tuesday. The proposed “Pashupatinath–Vaidyanath Dham High-Speed Corridor” will begin in Kathmandu and enter India via Bhimnagar and Birpur in Supaul district.

The route will pass through Madhepura, Saharsa, Khagaria, Munger and Banka districts before reaching Deoghar in Jharkhand, home to the revered Vaidyanath Dham temple.

According to Minister Jaiswal, the detailed project proposal has been forwarded to the federal government for approval. He said the primary objective of the corridor is to directly link the two major Hindu pilgrimage sites, promoting religious tourism and strengthening cultural exchange between Nepal and India.

He expressed confidence that the expressway would boost economic activity across several districts of Bihar and Jharkhand while strengthening the regional road network.

Meanwhile, the Bihar government stated that it is also advancing the construction process of the Raxaul–Haldia and Darbhanga–Amas expressways as part of efforts to develop a stronger road network in eastern India.

Under the India–Nepal border road project, 554.8 kilometres of road are currently under construction in Bihar, the minister said. Once completed, these projects are expected to ease cross-border movement and deliver significant benefits in trade, tourism and security.
