NEPSE Falls for Third Consecutive Day to 2,662.14

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell for the third consecutive day on Tuesday, February 10, dropping 0.38 percent or 10.25 points to close at 2,662.14.

The benchmark index had fallen 0.37 percent on Sunday and 0.96 percent on Monday.

Analysts suggest that heightened caution ahead of the March 5 House of Representatives elections has left long-term investors indecisive.

Trading activity also slowed. A total of 21.71 million shares changed hands through 89,836 transactions, generating a turnover of Rs 8.61 billion compared to 26.76 million shares traded through 102,281 transactions, producing Rs 10.77 billion in turnover on Monday. 

Market sentiment turned broadly negative, with share prices of most companies falling. Of the traded companies, 179 declined, 74 advanced, and seven remained unchanged. 

All major sub-indices closed lower: the Sensitive Index fell 0.27 percent, the Float Index dropped 0.44 percent, and the Sensitive Float Index slipped 0.36 percent.

Among individual stocks, Kalinchowk Darshan Limited (KDL) led the gainers with a 6.36 percent rise, while Corporate Development Bank Limited (CORBL) was the top loser, falling 5.24 percent. 

In terms of turnover, Arun Valley Hydropower Development Co. Ltd. (AHPC) dominated with transactions worth Rs 452.842 million, followed by Ankhu Khola Jalvidhyut Company Ltd (AKJCL) and Ridi Power Company Limited (RIDI).

Of the 13 sectoral indices, only two closed in the green – the Trading Index gained 0.52 percent and Mutual Funds rose 0.19 percent. 

The Development Bank Index suffered the steepest loss of 1.15 percent.

Total market capitalisation declined to Rs 4,469.80 billion from Rs 4,487.01 billion the previous day.
