The Election Commission (EC) announced that printing of ballot papers for 60 constituencies under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system was completed by 8 a.m. on Thursday, February 5, ahead of the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5.

Nepal is set to vote in less than a month to elect 275 members to the Lower House of the Federal Parliament, of whom 165 will be elected under the FPTP system and 110 through proportional representation (PR).

The ballot papers are being printed at Janak Shiksha Samagri Center Limited in Sanothimi, Bhaktapur. 

According to the EC, printing of PR ballot papers was completed on January 27. A total of 20.83 million PR ballots were printed starting January 10 and have already been packed for transportation to the districts.

For the FPTP system, a total of 20.32 million ballot papers are required. Of these, 7.26 million have been printed so far, Assistant Spokesperson Kul Bahadur GC said. Printing of FPTP ballots began on January 30. 

Ballot papers for 25 districts have already been printed and packed for transportation so far.

The Commission plans to distribute ballot papers between February 8 and 15. Election materials will be transported by road to accessible districts and by helicopter to remote constituencies.

The EC also stated that unused election materials from the 2022 polls have been dispatched to districts in and around Kathmandu.
