NEPSE Climbs Past 2,700 with 1.01% Gain

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index climbed 1.01 percent, gaining 27.19 points to close at 2,708.70 on Thursday, February 5, snapping the recent mixed trend.

In the previous session on Wednesday, the index had briefly crossed the 2,700 mark during intraday trading but closed at 2,681.50, down 0.06 percent from the day before. Earlier in the week, the market recorded a 0.73 percent decline on Sunday, a marginal 0.05 percent gain on Monday, and a 0.46 percent drop on Tuesday.

Trading activity picked up sharply on the final trading day of the week. A total of 35.57 million shares were traded through 108,817 transactions, up from 16.68 million shares and 80,422 transactions on Wednesday. Daily turnover surged to Rs 11.58 billion from Rs 7.49 billion a day earlier.

Market breadth remained strong, with 201 companies advancing, 55 declining, and four remaining unchanged.

All major sub-indices ended in positive territory. The Sensitive Index rose 0.98 percent, the Float Index gained 1.11 percent, and the Sensitive Float Index advanced 1.12 percent, reversing losses from the previous session.

Among individual stocks, Kalinchowk Darshan Limited (KDL), Super Mai Hydropower Limited (SMH), and Modi Energy Limited (MEL) hit the upper circuit limit to emerge as the top gainers. KDL and SMH had also topped the gainers’ list in the previous session.

On the downside, Super Madi Hydropower Limited (SMHL) was the biggest loser, plunging 9.98 percent despite being among Wednesday’s top gainers.

In terms of turnover, Union Hydropower Limited (UNHPL) led the market with Rs 587.76 million, followed by Radhi Bidyut Company Ltd (RADHI) and SY Panel Nepal Limited (SYPNL).

Of the 13 sectoral indices, only the Trading Index closed in the red, slipping 0.48 percent. The Non-Life Insurance and Others indices posted the strongest gains, both rising 1.98 percent. The Hydropower Index climbed 1.66 percent, the Investment Index gained 1.23 percent, and the Life Insurance Index rose 1.11 percent, while the remaining indices advanced by less than 1 percent.

Total market capitalisation increased to Rs 4,547.97 billion from Rs 4,502.30 billion in the previous session.
