Deurali Janata Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., which has been engaged in pharmaceutical production for 35 years, is set to establish a modern drug manufacturing factory in Bharatpur, Chitwan, meeting international standards.

The proposed project involves an investment of Rs 4.75 billion and is part of the company’s plan to diversify its product range and increase production capacity. The company aims to complete construction within two years, according to a press release issued by the company. Once operational, the new factory is expected to create direct employment for an additional 550 people.

In a press statement distributed at a media briefing in Kathmandu on Tuesday, the company said: “Through this renewed effort, involving an additional investment of Rs 4.75 billion to diversify products and enhance production capacity, we seek the support and encouragement of all government agencies, the public, and especially our journalist friends, along with prompt decisions for smooth implementation.”

Deurali Janata has been producing essential medicines domestically by importing high-tech equipment for 35 years. The company claims it has reduced dependency on imports while expanding the production of new and essential drugs in Nepal. According to the press release, the company has historically developed and produced hundreds of medicines locally for the first time, contributing to national self-reliance in pharmaceuticals.

Currently, the company produces 296 types of medicines—including capsules, tablets, syrups, ointments, and dry powders—meeting international quality standards. It directly employs 675 professionals, including skilled scientists and technicians.

Deurali Janata also claims to be the first pharmaceutical company in Nepal to import high-level international technology for drug production. On the occasion of its 35th anniversary, the company pledged to further improve the quality of its products and strengthen national self-reliance in the pharmaceutical sector.

The company has received ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications and World Health Organization (WHO) GMP certification, making it the first in Nepal to achieve international-standard pharmaceutical production while meeting quality and environmental standards.

Deurali Janata said the company emphasizes institutional management, administrative transparency, employee welfare, and social responsibility while striving to maintain international-level production, quality, and professional ethics. The company continues to work toward self-reliance in drug production and tapping into global markets for Nepali medicines, added the press release.
