Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Monday, February 2, reaffirmed that the House of Representatives elections would be held on schedule in a fair and fear-free environment, reiterating the government’s commitment to ensuring a credible electoral process.

Addressing the National Assembly — the Upper House of the Federal Parliament — for the first time, PM Karki briefed members on preparations for the March 5 election, stressing that conducting the polls on time remains the government’s top priority. She also outlined ongoing efforts to strengthen good governance and improve administrative effectiveness.

Highlighting the circumstances under which she assumed office, Karki said she took on the role amid difficult conditions and without any governing ambition. The country’s first woman prime minister stated that she was keen to hand over responsibilities to a new government formed after the election.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Karki also responded to questions raised by members during deliberations on the Study Report on the National Integrity Policy, 2082, presented by Kamala Panta, chair of the National Assembly’s Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee.
