A westerly low-pressure weather system is becoming active again, bringing changes in weather conditions across parts of the country, the Division of Hydrology and Meteorology said.

The system, which caused cloudy skies along with rainfall and snowfall last Tuesday and Wednesday in provinces other than Koshi and Madhesh, is expected to intensify further in the coming days.

A minor impact of the system has already been observed in parts of Sudurpaschim Province since Sunday, said Sanjeev Adhikari, a meteorologist at the Division of Hydrology and Meteorology.

According to Adhikari, the system is likely to strengthen on Monday, mainly affecting the mountainous and hill areas of the western region. Its influence is expected to extend to the central parts of the country by Tuesday.

During this period, the affected areas are forecast to remain generally cloudy, while the rest of the country will see partly cloudy conditions, accompanied by a drop in temperature, he said.

Although the system is weaker than the one that affected the country last week, it is still expected to bring moderate rainfall and snowfall, particularly in the western region. The impact is likely to be more pronounced in Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, where cloud cover was observed on Sunday.

The meteorologist said cloudiness is expected to intensify further by Tuesday, causing snowfall in high-altitude and mountainous areas and light to moderate rainfall in other regions of the western and central parts of the country. -- RSS
