Daily life across the country has gradually returned to normalcy after rain and snowfall triggered by a western low-pressure system last Tuesday and Wednesday disrupted transport and routine activities in many areas of the country.

The rain and snowfall had affected traffic movement and normal life in several places, particularly in the hill and high mountainous districts of western and central Nepal, where heavy snow blocked roads. Authorities cleared snow-covered road sections and restored vehicular movement by Saturday evening.

Security agencies, including the Armed Police Force, cleared snow along routes leading to Mustang and reopened several highways that had remained obstructed due to snowfall. The Police Headquarters said coordinated efforts by security personnel helped resume transportation in affected areas.

Although the weather improved with sunshine since Friday, it took time for accumulated snow to melt and for road-clearing operations to be completed, delaying the full restoration of traffic in some areas.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the weather system has weakened, bringing clearer conditions to many parts of the country. Senior meteorologist Barun Paudel said that while sunshine has returned to most areas, cold conditions will persist during the morning and evening hours, and people should take precautions against the cold.

He added that some high hill and Himalayan regions may still experience light rain or snowfall, but weather conditions are unlikely to deteriorate to the levels seen last week.

The recent system brought rain and snowfall to most parts of the country, including the Kathmandu Valley, except for Koshi and Madhesh Provinces. Surkhet recorded the highest rainfall during the period, measuring up to 43 millimetres. -- RSS
