A total of 49 candidates have withdrawn their nominations under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system from constituencies across the country for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, the Election Commission said on Friday, January 23.
Speaking at the Commission’s weekly press conference, Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said the figure is based on information received through the Commission’s system. He added that additional details were still being compiled.
The Commission said the election process, from nomination filing to withdrawals, has remained peaceful.
Bhattarai also said the list of candidates under the proportional representation system has been published, with time given until Saturday, January 24, to file claims and objections.
Political parties had submitted their closed lists for the proportional system on December 28 and 29. The final list will be published after the claims and objections period ends.
The Commission said the final list of candidates under the first-past-the-post system has been published through the offices of 77 chief election officers and 88 election officers nationwide.
Assistant Spokesperson Kul Bahadur GC said all candidates, including party nominees and independents, will be allotted election symbols at those offices between 4 pm and 7 pm on Friday.
