NEPSE Slips 9.43 Points

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index slipped 0.34 percent, or 9.43 points, to close at 2,705.38 on Wednesday, January 21. The benchmark index had gained 1.58 percent on Tuesday, following a 1.17 percent rise on Sunday. The market remained closed on Monday due to the public holiday for Sonam Lhosar.

Of the traded securities on Wednesday, 82 advanced, 174 declined and three remained unchanged.

Daily turnover fell to Rs 8.92 billion from Rs 11.85 billion recorded on Tuesday. Over 21.64 million shares were traded through 89,766 transactions, compared to more than 25 million shares exchanged through 115,181 transactions a day earlier.

All major sub-indices closed in negative territory. The Sensitive Index fell 0.28 percent, the Float Index dropped 0.30 percent, and the Sensitive Float Index slipped 0.31 percent.

Kalika Power Company Ltd led the gainers, surging 9.84 percent, followed by Narayani Development Bank Limited, which climbed 9.16 percent.

Gurans Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited recorded the steepest loss of the session, shedding 5.89 percent.

In terms of turnover, Ankhu Khola Jalvidhyut Company Ltd topped the chart with transactions worth Rs 433.63 million. It was followed by NRN Infrastructure and Development Limited and Himalayan Reinsurance Limited.

Among the 13 sectoral sub-indices, only the Others Index ended higher, gaining 0.26 percent. The Hotels and Tourism Index posted the biggest decline, falling 1.88 percent.

Total market capitalisation declined to Rs 4,542.39 billion from Rs 4,558.24 billion on Tuesday.
