The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index gained 0.17 percent, or 4.59 points, on Thursday, January 8, the final trading day of the week. The benchmark index closed at 2,640.54.
The gain, however, came in the final two minutes of trading, when the index rose by 5.30 points.
The market showed a mixed trend during the week. The index fell 0.39 percent on Sunday. It rebounded with gains of 1.10 percent and 0.37 percent on the following days. The index then slipped 0.50 percent on Wednesday.
Of the traded securities, 129 advanced, 115 declined and 15 remained unchanged.
A total of 10,431,760 shares were traded through 69,261 transactions.
Daily turnover stood at Rs 4.90 billion. This was down from Rs 5.17 billion on Wednesday, when 10.63 million shares were traded through 72,474 transactions.
Major sub-indices ended higher. The Sensitive Index rose 0.20 percent. The Float Index gained 0.25 percent. The Sensitive Float Index increased 0.23 percent.
Among individual stocks, Sanvi Energy Limited (SANVI) was the top gainer, rising 8.16 percent. Super Madi Hydropower Limited (SMHL) was the biggest loser, falling 3.90 percent.
In terms of turnover, SY Panel Nepal Limited (SYPNL) led with Rs 200.63 million. It was followed by Bandipur Cablecar and Tourism Limited (BANDIPUR) and Sanvi Energy Limited (SANVI).
Of the 13 sub-indices, six closed in negative territory. Gains were modest, all below 1 percent. The Manufacturing and Processing Index led with a rise of 0.49 percent. Losses were also limited, with the Finance Index falling the most at 0.44 percent.
Total market capitalisation increased to Rs 4,433.53 billion from Rs 4,425.82 billion the previous day.
