Private airlines have suspended flights along the Pokhara–Jomsom route for at least two months due to the decline in tourist numbers to Mustang during the winter season.
Summit Airlines and Tara Airlines, which operate regular flights on the route, cited adverse weather conditions, the possibility of snowfall, and low demand for tickets as the reasons for the temporary suspension, said Deepak Pokharel, chief of the Jomsom-based Civil Aviation Office.
Pokharel added that while regular flights are suspended, chartered flights and emergency helicopter services will continue to operate.
Tara Airlines’ station in-charge for Mustang, Suchan Lalchan, confirmed that the company suspended Pokhara–Jomsom flights from December 4 until March 1. Similarly, Summit Airlines has temporarily halted its regular flights for two months.
Strong winds in Mustang during the winter also affect Pokhara–Jomsom flights. In addition, improved road conditions on the Beni–Jomsom–Korala route have contributed to a decline in air passengers.
Airline companies had also suspended flights to Jomsom for two months earlier during the rainy season. – RSS
