President Ram Chandra Paudel meets Prime Minister Sushila Karki and former prime ministers Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Sher Bahadur Deuba and KP Sharma Oli at the Office of the President, Sheetal Niwas, Maharajgunj, Kathmandu on Tuesday, December 23.

This is the first joint meeting among the President, Prime Minister and senior leaders of the three major parties in the House of Representatives that was dissolved in September following the Gen Z protests.

Dahal, now coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party, led the CPN (Maoist Centre) when the House was dissolved. KP Sharma Oli, chair of CPN-UML, has repeatedly declined to testify before the inquiry commission investigating the protests and related incidents.

Nepali Congress President Deuba and his wife, Aarzu Rana, who was Foreign Minister during the protests, were assaulted by a mob at their Budanilkantha residence on September 9.

The meeting comes as the Karki-led government struggles to build political consensus ahead of the general elections scheduled for March 5, 2026.

Gen Z groups remain divided after the protests. Nepali Congress is split over whether to push for House restoration or fresh elections, while the Oli-led CPN-UML continues to strongly advocate for restoring the dissolved House.
