Moxy Hotels, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s global portfolio of over 30 hotel brands, announced its debut in Nepal on Friday, December 12, with the opening of Moxy Kathmandu.

Located in Durbarmarg, the hotel blends local design with flexible social spaces and a strong focus on interaction, Marriott International said in a statement.

Moxy Kathmandu is the third luxury hotel launched by Everest Hospitality and Hotel, a subsidiary of MS Group whih is one of Nepal’s largest conglomerates with investment access manufacturing, housing and hospitality sectors.

Gaurav Agrawal, Managing Director of Everest Hospitality and Hotels, said the group plans to launch the 300-room JW Marriott, a premium brand under Marriott International, to Nepal within five years.

Led by industrialist Shashikant Agrawal, MS Group has already brought into operation the five-star Kathmandu Marriott in Naxal and the four-star Fairfield by Marriott in Thamel.

“Moxy’s bold, playful spirit is perfectly suited for a city like Kathmandu, where tradition meets vibrant modernity,” said Kiran Andicot, Senior Vice President for South Asia at Marriott International. “As demand for experiences that are both unconventional and culturally connected increases, Moxy Kathmandu brings eclectic youthful energy to match the pace of the city.”

“We are proud to introduce this lifestyle brand to Nepal - our first in the country and third in South Asia as we expand our portfolio in the region to attract travelers seeking style, energy, and authenticity,” he added.

The guest experience begins at The Moxy Bar, which serves as  the “hotel’s unconventional check-in counter and center of activity.” They are welcomed with a complimentary hand-crafted cocktail. The open lobby features contemporary artwork inspired by Nepali culture and is designed to encourage social interaction. Communal seating, music-led spaces and recreation zones offer games such as air hockey and board games.

“Adding to the excitement is the signature Moxy Hookup, where guests are surprised with spontaneous perks such as a free drink, local snack delicacies, exclusive discounts, or fun gifts,” the statement added.

The 101 guestrooms are designed to maximise space and flexibility. Rooms feature plush bedding, walk-in showers and 55-inch HD smart TVs. Smart design elements include modular furniture, motion-activated LED lighting, open storage layouts and peg-wall systems.

The hotel also includes a fitness centre.

Dining is a key highlight. On Level 11, LA HACIENDA – Barra y Cocina Latina offers Latin American cuisine curated by Mexican chef Martin Hernandez Lopez.

“The striking design and open kitchen concept, crafted by New York-based Mexican designer Pablo Castellanos, infuses the venue with a strong sense of storytelling and style,” the statement said. “For those seeking a more relaxed setting, CARIÑO – Terraza Latina offers a breezy, open-air terrace perfect for sipping handcrafted cocktails while taking in the city skyline.”

“Kathmandu is a city full of character. It’s ancient yet modern, vibrant yet laid-back, always moving, always evolving. That’s what makes it the perfect match for Moxy,” said Subarna Thapa, Captain of Moxy Kathmandu. “We’re bringing a hotel experience that’s bold, social, and full of personality, where guests don’t just stay, they plug into the city’s energy, and we can’t wait to see it come to life.”
