The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index slipped 0.06 percent (1.66 points) on Thursday, December 11, to close at 2,607.37. It had fallen 0.28 percent the previous day.

Except for Tuesday’s modest 0.28 percent uptick, the benchmark ended every trading session this week in negative territory.

The downturn extends last week’s slide, when the market declined each day, reversing the momentum generated by the previous week’s five-day winning streak.

Trading activity also weakened on Thursday. Investors traded 7.76 million shares in 69,729 transactions, compared with 8.64 million shares across 91,394 transactions on Wednesday. Daily turnover fell to Rs 3.49 billion from Rs 3.73 billion.

Among the major sub-indices, only the Sensitive Index ended higher, inching up 0.02 percent. The Float Index and Sensitive Float Index declined 0.06 percent and 0.04 percent, respectively.

Market breadth remained negative. A total of 149 securities declined, while 98 advanced. Eleven remained unchanged.

On the gainers’ side, Swastik Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (SWASTIK) hit the upper circuit limit and led the day’s rise. SY Panel Nepal Limited (SYPNL) also surged 9.98 percent.

Muktinath Krishi Company Limited (MKCL) posted the steepest fall of the day, tumbling 8.42 percent.

Ngadi Group Power Ltd (NGPL) topped the turnover chart with Rs 189.71 million in trades. Shreenagar Agritech Industries Limited (SAIL) and Sagar Distillery Limited (SAGAR) followed.

Among the 13 sectoral indices, five closed higher. Manufacturing and Processing led with a 0.92 percent gain, while the Finance Index recorded the sharpest decline, down 0.65 percent.

Total market capitalisation fell to Rs 4,377.83 billion from Rs 4,380.62 billion on Wednesday.
